APOCALYPTIC FILMS

U506                  This is Not a Test (62) A time capsule, and still relevant in 2024.  A policeman sets up a roadblock, then, after stopping a number of people, he speaks.  We  are under nuclear attack.  Time is short and they must reach the bomb shelter.  This is not a test.  The ironies packed into it's 72 minutes are all handled with a light touch.  Sits along fine next to 1988's 'Miracle Mile'.  The film is meant to be chaotic, considering, doom has a front seat to the show.

CLASSIC HORROR AND SCI-FI FILMS

W467                 Dark Hour, The (36) House murder mystery films were popular low-budget thrillers in the 1930's.  One death leads to another as two sleuths wisely combine  forces to find a killer, after the first body is found in the large library.  Everyone has a motive.  Ray Walker, Hedda Hopper and more star

W468                 Dreadful and Guilty Pleasures Vol.  1 - Features the following shorts, all aimed at educating young people about the various life obstacles ahead.  1. Last Date (50) A young woman chooses poorly in the dating department when disaster strikes, leaving her disfigured.  All for the adrenaline thrill of the 'bad boy'.  This short stars Joan Taylor and Dick (Bewitched) York.

W465 Let There Be Light (46) One of three films produced for the U.S. Government by John Huston.  The talks with PTSD (not a recognized condition yet in 1946) soldiers was such a morale killer the film was banned for three decades.  Today the war machine keeps turning, at two minutes to midnight, the war pigs laughing at the death and destruction.  Some, more than others.

U468 Lost Honeymoon (47) aka: Amy Comes Across  The death of an English woman puts her children at question.  The father is in the United States and now a successful architect, and through lies, denies their existence.  Or is it amnesia?  The best friend of the dead mother poses as their mother and arrives to confront.  Franchot Tone, Ann Richards and more star.  BA

U479 Medicine Man, The (30) Jack Benny is Dr. John Harvey, a barker for a medicine show, a con of sorts.  Young Mamie (Betty Bronson) and her brother Buddy dream of escaping their cruel shopkeeper father, who rules with an iron hand.  Dr. John takes a romantic interest in Mamie, maybe to live a real life out of the grift.  Another lecher is after the same girl.....   Betty Bronson played Peter Pan in the 1924 silent version.  BA

U333 Midnight Faces (26) aka: Midnight Fires  Old Dark House fun with the immortal Francis X. Bushman Jr. as Lynn Claymore.  The mansion inherited is in a Florida swamp.  The former servants, a macabre assortment of stereotypes, report to resume their former duties.  Something happens in the night.  There is a strange presence afoot.  A film that stands up at almost 100 years old for classic horror/mystery aficionado's.

U570 Missing Boys of St. Agil (38) aka: Boys’ School  aka: Les disparus de St. Agil   Germany: Two students have gone missing at the St.  Agil secondary school.  A mysterious postcard is sent from America.  The closest friend of the two boy's takes steps to uncover the mystery.  With Eric Von Stroheim in a 'good guy' role.  Move over Encyclopedia Brown and The Hardy Boys......  An excellent, sometimes chilling mystery with teenagers as many of the main players.  French with English subtitles  BA

U478 Mr. Boggs Steps Out (38) aka: Mr. Boggs Buys a Barrel  Oliver Boggs (Stuart Irving) can spit and spot statistics out like a savant, and wins $1500 in a bean-guessing contest, quits his job, and buys a barrel factory in a small town, which has one customer, a maker of pickles.  Oliver starts to pull the business out of the red.  Also starring Helen (Dracula) Chandler.  Helen Chandler was 'Mina' in the original 1931 'Dracula'.  She fell into a drunken stupor and drugs by 1937 and found herself in the nuthouse.  Ten years later she was disfigured by a fire.  She died April 30th 1965 of a bleeding ulcer after surgery at age 59 in Hollywood, the land of dreams, hers nightmares.  This was her last film before her twenty year downfall road to doom.  BA

U477 Nut Farm, The (35) Bob (Wallace Ford) wants to run a nut farm, snags his wife Helen (Betty Alden) plus the family, now California bound.  Scam artists descend planting delusions of grandeur into their minds, convincing them of stardom if they invest their life-savings.  Only Bob knows the value of true work and he smells a rat in Hollywood.   But will it be too late?

U431 Plague in Florence, The (1919) aka: Pest in Florenz  Excellent early silent version of Edgar Allen Poe's 'Mask of the Red Death', with a screenplay by Fritz Lang, and directed by Otto (Homunculus) Rippert.  And what a production it is.  Set in the 14th century, there appears an evil seductress to the cities ruler, both he and his son driven mad with lust, as well as everybody else.  The son has his father killed before an order is set forth to kill all the women of the town.  No, instead, the churches are turned into dens of sex and sin, evil running rampant, lust and excess taking over all, until death comes knocking, the plague, to drag everyone to their doom.  Stands up quite well....  The film is dark.  The film is grim.  English subtitles - Expiate!

U435 Rasputin (38) aka: La tragédie impériale   Yet another interpretation, not to be mixed up with the many others.  It details the Siberian monk Gregory Rasputin (Harry Bauer), and the sway he held over the court of the last Russian Czar, Nicholas.  Since it is 1937, we do not see Rasputin's debauchery (although implied of course), but rather, his sermons, in which he urges the crowds to take advantage of their lives.  The assassination scene is brilliantly staged.  Rasputin is hard to kill, when he finally drops, they dig a hole in the ice, and drop his body into it.  Bauer's portrayal of Rasputin is monumental.  A thoughtful production from France.   English subtitles  BA

U497 Stolen Identity (53) Concert pianist Claude Manelli (Frances Lederer) is jealous.  His wife Karen (Joan Camden) has been making love with another man.  Naturally, Claude kills him!  Claude tries to frame an innocent taxi driver for the murder.  The taxi driver assumes the identity of the dead man in the hopes of returning to the United States under a new identity.  Karen confronts him.....  Tidy little crime thriller produced by Turhan Bey.  BA

U498 Storm at Daybreak (33) aka: Strange Rhapsody  aka: Storm i daggryningen   Film debut of Ellen Corby.  Sarajevo June 1914.  Dushan, the Serbian mayor of a Hungarian town arrives to watch the parade of Archduke Ferdinand.  A Serb assassinates the Archduke and a war breaks out.  Dushan's wife hides Serbs in her barn.  Dushan's wife is unfaithful, flirting with Geza, the man investigating the assassination.  Ancient classic costumer starring Kay Francis, Walter Huston, Nils Asther and many more.  BA

U500 Sun Never Sets, The (39) On the Gold Coast colony, Zurof (Lionel Atwill) pursues a dangerous political agenda using his hidden radio antennae, setting the world in disorder.  Only  Clive Randolph (Basil Rathbone) and his younger brother John (Douglas Fairbanks Jr.), also colony travelers, can put a stop to his shenanigans.  Or, a millionaire madman broadcasts vile invective from a secret radio station somewhere in Africa.  Also starring Barbara O'Neil.  BA

U501 Sundown (41) Africa, the 1940's, Kenya, to be exact.  Adventure across rugged landscapes, dark caverns and incredible lake-fronts.  George Sanders is sent to a desert outpost which is run by Bruce Cabot where they track down a plot that supplies the natives with arms.  Gene Tierney comes in as 'Zia' a half-Arab, half-English (um okay) owner of an extensive trading network, bequeathed to her by papa.   Zia goes to work for the British against the unseen Nazis.  Gene Tierny is a living doll in this one.

U508 Toto in Hell (54) aka: Totò all'inferno  Thief Antonio (Toto), distraught, foolishly drowns in a river, and wakes up in hell.  Once in hell, Toto meets Cleopatra (Mria Frau) and even Al Capone.  The film switches from black and white to color when Toto arrives in hell.  The demons are your typical Halloween depictions with horns and wings.  Toto shakes things up in hell, as only Toto can.  Italian only -no subs

U509 Un Chien Andalou (29) aka: An Andalusian Dog  In 1929, Luis Bunuel and Salvador Dali recorded on film these surrealistic, symbolic mind trip moments with images that range from the Death Head Moth, the erotic, frightening, funny, strange, and fantastic, breast groping and nudity included! + Land Without Bread (33) Luis Bunuel presents this pseudo-documentary featuring a remote civilization in Spain that is way behind the 20th Century advances.  Together the two run under one hour.

U476 Uncle Joe (41) Uncle Joe (and his four country boys) is joined by young Clare Day (Gale Storm) in the country and together they try to stop a home foreclosure on an aunt.  Some good gags and some good songs ('Woogie Hula' by 'The Tanner Sisters' and Honey Lamb sings 'The Land of Nod').  Slim Summerville, Zasu Pitts and Wimpy the Dog.  (runs a bit under an hour)

U513 We're in the Legion Now (36) Two clumsy mobster/bootleggers, pursued by an assassin (the mob boss has ordered them dead), go on the run to Paris after prohibition ends.  They then join the French Foreign Legion and find themselves in all kinds of mischief.  An interesting look at early color (Magnacolor).  BA

U516 Werewolf in a Girls’ Dormitory (61) aka: Monster Among the Girls   American release version of 'Lycantropus' with the familiar (and better) title of 'Werewolf in a Girl's Dormitory'.  Apparently this is the version most people want to revisit, because it aired so many times on American television in the 1960's and 1970's.  Also available as 'Lycantropus', the International version which is slightly more explicit.  BA

U360 White Paws (49) Julien makes advances towards the saloon keeper's girlfriend Odette (Suzy Delair).  A strange mixture of melodrama and poetic realism, even fairytale, the latter supplied by Mimi the hunchback whose dream it is to live in a gothic chateau with  her noble lord.  But this lord is obsessed by a flighty female., who is already tied up having an affair with his quite mad younger brother, while also remains engaged to a local fisherman!   English subtitles

W462 Youth Aflame (44) aka: Hoodlum Girls   A milk club for teenagers, where they can drink milk and jitterbug (dance).  Two teenage sisters.  One good, the other, bad.  Lingerie, funny preachy dialogue, sexism, girls with guns....  A girl wakes up in the hospital and launches us into flashbacks explaining how she got there.  Don't forget to drink your milk.   Quotes: 'You young people sure make it hard on your parent's these days' and ' One generation has always blamed the other'.

DINOSAURS, LOST LANDS, FANTASY FILMS, PEPLUMS, SWORD & SANDALS AND MORE

W450 Behold the Man (35) aka: Golgotha   From France, the first sound film of Jesus Christ, covering Palm Sunday, the Passion, and the Resurrection.  Robert Le Vigan as 'Christ' projects the most haunting version of Jesus ever caught on film.   Also noteworthy is the fact that instead of a focus on his teachings, we experience Christ by how the others see him.  Jews nail Christ to the cross instead of Roman soldiers.  Jean Gabin is Ponce Pilate.  The primitive nature of this display seems almost real, with no flash.  In real life Robert Le Vigan hated Jews, and collaborated with the Nazis in WWII, was stripped of his French citizenship, sentenced to hard labor where he spent three years.  He died in 1972 in Venezuela at age 72, penniless.  An excellent time capsule dubbed into English  BA

W463 Bungle in the Jungle (various)  Includes Native Africa and trailers - Take a trip into the jungle and realize this is not that very long ago.  Savages still exist in primitive tribes to this very day.  Jungle movie trailers pad out the running time.

U475 Cartoon Mania (various) The Lone Ranger, Circus of Death, The Brave, Cult of the Black Widow, Snow Creature, El Conquistador, Man of Silver, The Prairie Pirate, The Black Panther, Thomas the Great, Island of the Black Widow and more!!!   Quality varies

U430 Castle of the Banned Lovers (56) aka: Beatrice Cenci  aka: Le Château des amants maudits  Directed by Riccardo Freda.  The beautiful Beatrice Cenci (Mireille Granelli) falls in love with Olimpio (Fausto Tozzi) in 1598, much to the chagrin of her violent noble father Francisco, and wicked stepmother Lucrezia (Micheline Presle), who is having an affair with Francisco's son, who plan's to murder Francisco with Lucrezia.  But when Francesco dies by accident, they try to Frame Beatrice and Olimpio.  Beatrice Cenci is sentenced, the usual punishment for Patricide is being drawn and quartered, but she is shown mercy, decapitation.  Nice Widescreen English subtitled print   BA

W456 Gospel According to St. Matthew, The (64) aka: Il vangelo secondo Matteo  Long before Pier Paolo Pasolini made the notorious film 'Salo, or the 120 Days of Sodom' in 1975, he directed this biblical epic, Jesus as a Marxist, using half of the text of Matthew.  This Jesus is a hardass.  He comes to bring a sword, not peace, he says.  This film depicts Jesus as the world's greatest revolutionary.  The film is minimal, with nothing but what Pasolini saw as essential text interpretation.  African American gospel music blended with Bach makes for an effective soundtrack.  Pasolini was an atheist, fascist, Marxist ...  his views and films are believed to be the reason he was found battered and quite dead near Rome in 1975 at age 53.   In Italian with English subtitles  BA

U382 Hercules in New York (70) aka: Hercules Goes Bananas   The first film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.  He is 'Hercules', sent to Earth by after being banned from Olympus by Zeus.  The opening scene in Olympus looks like a high school production, except worse. BA

U490 Hercules Returns (93) Hercules Returns is a proud piss take on the Italian Hercules movies from a few decades before.  Rewrites the original B-movie vision, into something far more salacious and silly.  Samson and the Mighty Challenge is changed with new dubbing for a public screening.  You'll be in stitches.  Hercules/Samson is overdubbed as goofy cabaret wannabe, who wanders into the little town of Climidia...  get it? The dubbing is well done, and you can almost buy it! The movie brings down the house.  This was made in Australia.  The wraparound footage stars scarecrow gyro-copter guy Bruce Spence and more.

U365 Hollywood Dinosaurs (91) This is an informative starter kit for the dinosaur film enthusiast.  Starting way back in the days of black and white up to right before Jurassic Park.  There are some trivia bits, and well-known established facts, delivered with humor.  Plenty of trailers and clips running under one hour.

U454 Inquiry, The (87) aka: L'inchiesta   Dealing with the aftermath.....  another telling....  Pontius Pilate (Harvey Keitel) and the silent opposition people thwart the inquiry led by Taurus (Keith Carradine), who has been sent by Caesar to disprove the Christ has risen from the dead after being brutally crucified, a notion dismissed by the Romans, and explained as nuisance put out there by Christian fanatics.  Taurus becomes entangled in a dark web of mystery, violence and passion.  What light of revelation, or dark truth, exists at the end of the search?  Filmed in Tunisia

U432 Last Relic, The (69) aka: Viimne reliikvia   Collaboration between the Soviet Union and Estonia.  In 15th century medieval times, there is a revolt of the peasants.  A nobleman pledges to secure relics of the holy Brigitte, as long as he gets the beautiful Agnes as his reward.  But Agnes has already fallen for a roving adventurer, making the church cause a deceit.  The scene where the adventurer and the Agnes share a giant turkey leg while a dog watches patiently is classic.  During the chase scene where the church people give chase, the horse that fell off the bridge was killed.  In Estonian, with no subtitles unfortunately, still, a pretty spectacular medieval love story.  BA

U576 Lotte Reiniger - The Fairy Tale Films (61) Lotte Reiniger was a German pioneer animator of silhouette cartoon work.  Here features some of her best.  The Magic Horse, The Grasshopper and the Ant, The Three Wishes, Thumbelina, The Caliph Stork, Hansel and Gretel, Jack and the Beanstalk, The Little Chimney Sweep, The Frog Princess...  Almost entirely in black and white although I noticed color backdrops on Jack and the Beanstalk.

U433 Mamelukes, The (65) aka: Revolt of the Mamalukes  aka: El mamalik  Set in Egypt during an era when the Mamalukes, non-Arab, ethnically diverse enslaved mercenaries, slave soldiers, and freed slaves, served the ruling Arabs in the Muslim world, face the rebellion of the Egyptians, who unite to eliminate them for good.  Exciting battle and massive location set footage.  Inspired by true events.  Omar Sharif stars.  Dubbed into English

U440 Nobody Wanted to Die (65)  aka: Niekas nenorejo mirti   In 1947, violent armed gangs still populate the forests of Lithuania.  Now four village council men have been killed, including Loki, presumably murdered by the rogue Brownie gang.  His four sons vow revenge.  So we learn of the cruel reality of Lithuania right after WWII, the country still occupied by Soviet Russia, with strong guerilla resistance in the woods, supporting soviets.  Brother will kill brother.  At one point, no one is safe, from either side.  Complete chaos.  English subtitles

U335 Queen Kong (76) aka: Queen Gorilla  Off the African coast there lies the tropical island of Lazonga.  Beyond the beach and into the jungles where female natives worship a huge female ape named 'Queen Kong'.  A film company arrives, and Ray Fay (Robin Askwith) becomes the object of attention for the smitten beast.  Unquestionably a parody, with some funny moments, cheeky absurdities galore, and a decent cast that includes Valerie Leon and more familiar faces including Linda Hayden as a singing nun.  England's answer to the bloated 'King Kong' remake. BA

U434 Sasuke and His Comedians (63) aka: Brave Records of the Sanada Clan  aka: Sanada fûunroku   In the 1600's, a young boy with magical powers that come from a crashed meteor is found by a group of children, orphaned after the historical battle of Sekigahara.  They are scavenging for armor when they come upon the boy, now, much later, they are all grown and they are enlisted to defend the siege of Osaka castle from the Tokugawa armies.  When his eyes go blue he can topple enemies with the power of his mind.  Swords clash, musical numbers are played.  We don't need the samurai once peace is established.  Epic scale, strange, patriotic music, here's a lyric.  'It's like a dream or illusion, but I don't care what it is.  I want to do what I want.  I want to die cool!  People only live 50 years, but I want to die cool!   English subtitles

U439 Tragedy of Coriolanus, The (84) Another version of the tale, originally filmed in 1964 with Gordon Scott.  In this updated version, The Voice of the Ring in Peter Jackson's trilogy, is Coriolanus.  Abruptly edited but steadily violent, sets beautifully designed, leaves one wanting for an epic battle sequence, but this is a BBC production so scrap that (although there is some of that).  Don't expect 'Excalibur'.  Shakespeare's primary source for Coriolanus was Plutarch's 'The Lives of Noble Grecians and Romans', first translated into French by a Bishop in 1559.  This version was said to bring people to tears.  Runs around 2 1/2 hours

U517 Trap on Cougar Mountain (72) aka: Run to the High Country  Do wild animals have the right to live and be free too? Young Erik (Eric Larsen) Larsen think so.  He rescues a badger from certain death.  When he hears hunters shooting at something, young Erik is disturbed.  Young Erik is not too bright.  People gotta' eat.  Young Erik does not agree.  He breaks into the hunters cabin and ruins their ammo.  The sorry little bastard.  Time to put Erik on the kill list.  Eco-Propaganda, lots of shots of animals (Erik's friends all), environmental messages, cool 70's clothes and soundtrack.   BA

U512 Untamed Women (52) As recalled by a concussed, possibly insane man, floating on a raft in the middle of the ocean, he recounts his tale of adventure and woe.  Part of a downed U.S.  Bomber crew, their life raft taking them to a volcanic island inhabited by savage, hairy men, hit and wild dancing Amazon-like babes, stock footage giant  lizards dressed up like dinosaurs stalking cheap miniatures and more.  A perfect companion to the equally dodgy classic 'Two Lost Worlds' from 1951.  Don't miss it! Upgrade!  BA

U327 Väreitä (65) aka: Shudders  Living alone on an island, a man is pleasantly surprised when three naked maidens rise from the sea.  The next morning he wakes up and imagines that it was only a dream.  But then later, he catches one of the water nymphs in his fishing net.....  This beautifully filmed colorful fantasy from Finland runs under an hour and comes with English subtitles

U460 When the Cat Comes (63) aka: Az prijde kocour   The storyteller's tale of his former love and her magical cat, which wears glasses.  They arrive in town, cat in tow, the magician and his wife, Diana.  With the glasses off, the cat can detect true feelings, true motivations and can turn people tinted color to reflect (through a special lighting effect).  Red for those in love, purple for the hypocrites, yellow for the unfaithful and gray for the dishonest.  The adults are wary, the children delighted.  A fantastic fable about human behavior, a trip into the fantastic.  Czech Republic in Widescreen and with English subtitles  BA

W453 Wild Women (51) aka: Bowanga Bowanga  Deep in the savage and topless jungles of Africa, we see primitive tribes living their day to day, hopping around, canoeing, running here and there.....  Enter white hunters, stock footage, fake natives, and finally an encounter with a tribe of milky white Amazon warriors, you know, like the kind all over in the jungles of Africa, the kind with perfect Hollywood hair, shaved legs, trimmed nails...  incredibly illiterate.  The women seem to want men, but only strong ones.  Their animals skins look like bathing suits, they sing, they dance....  Bowanga Bowanga!  BA

EXPLOITATION FILMS

U416 Angelique in Black Leather (68) Angelique Bouchet, in her only screen credit is the submissive, dominated over by a sexy blonde, with voice-over narration.  There are no males in this lesbian romp.  Two hot blondes meeting in the streets of New York City.  They look well-to-do, and off together they go.  Wine, a fire place background...  they take it slow at first, they watch porn.  But then another woman arrives, and the leather comes out.  The film ends when the bondage and seemingly dark ending hits.....  Under an hour

U421 Bambina (74) aka: Le faro' da padre  - Now with English subtitles for the first time!  See page #172 in catalog - Even more twisted with translation!

U448 Bedroom Mazurka (70) aka: Mazurka på sengekanten  aka: Bedside Manner  When the school needs a new schoolmaster, the boys know who they want it to be.  Max.  The most popular teacher at the school.  Max is betrothed to a cute blonde (Birt Tove), but shy and inexperienced.  He is seduced, and learns how to have sex.  Max likes it so much he becomes a changed man.  Now, will he take the position.  Nudity, sex shops and sexual situations.....  rape?  You decide the psychology of Anne Grete Nissan's character.  Danish with English subtitles

U466 Before Clothing 50,000 B.C.  (63) aka: Nudes on the Rocks   Down on his luck loser Charlie Wishnick takes a time travel taxi back to prehistoric times where he finds numerous topless babes, and falls in lust with the voluptuous Zelda (soft-core regular Gigi Darlene).  Leopard-skin prehistoric women look more like stacked Amazons from a lost Jess Franco movie.  Silly humor, and big Eddie (The World's Tallest Man) Carmel appears as the threatening giant 'Gorax'.  Naked slapstick with puns so bad you have to laugh.  The dog almost steals the show, until of course the first topless shot takes over.  Whatever happened to Gigi Darlene? She died of stomach cancer in Florida at age 58 in 2002.  7' 6" Eddie Carmel was also the beast-man in 'The Brain That Wouldn't Die'.  Glandular disease toppled him in 1972 in New York when he was just 37.  BA

U420 Between the Covers (73) aka: Liebe zwischen Tür und Angel - Vertreterinnen-Report  English dubbed German sex comedy, damn near hardcore at times.  This is a lower-level knock-off of the Schoolgirl Report type of film.  Which is not really an insult, because the ladies here are numerous, nubile, and quite naked (frequently).  This 84 minute uncut version (other prints a scant 69 minutes, although a nice number it doesn't apply in this case) features all of the previously cut naughtier bits.  A salesman gets lucky with two women....  ultimately, this film is about a few men talking about their sexual experiences which we see in flashback.  Dildo Candles anyone?  An erotic adventure, sometimes funny, lots of sex and nudity, one of the starlets Heidrun Hankammmer of 'Death Occurred Last Night' and '2069: A Sex Odyssey'.  Dubbed into English

U444 California Drive-In Girls (72) aka: Kitty Can't Help It  aka: The Carhops   Kitty (Kitty Carl) ditches her home life with her over-bearing mom, and sets off in search of a boyfriend.  BA

U424 California Girls (84) Six drop-dead gorgeous, natural women ride horses, booze it up in a swimming pool, pose naked in bed, shower, sail, exercise naked, shoot pool naked, sexy lesbian oil rubdown ...  set to some mellow pop music.   And who do we get to see this time out?   Michelle Bauer, Monique Gabrielle, Susan Austin, Lindsay Freeman and other sexy chicks.  Runs under an hour.

U372 Censorship U.S.A.  (71) Hardcore cinema is about to become legal.  A future pornographer takes to the streets and asks people what they think pornography really is.  The films were not yet out, but sex shows and sex shops are all the rage.  This is a little glimpse into the mind set of some Americans and just what they actually were thinking at the time.

U401 Delicato (70) aka: Passport to Pleasure   A European travelogue about what goes on behind closed doors in Copenhagen, Madrid and the beautiful French Riviera.  Soft-core sex with beautiful babes mixed with beautiful location photography of yesteryear, when everything was safer, and cleaner.  When countries had their own identity.  The bullfight scene and the abuse endured by the bull may be disturbing to some.  Narrated  about an hour long

U415 Elza's Sexual Fantasies (82) aka: Desejos sexuais de Elza   Swell music and uninhibited natural behaviors of Brazil when sensual Elza lusts after her husband's new ex-convict employee 'Dalmi', who passes himself off as some sort of badass big shot.  Elza knows about his past, but her husband does not.  When Elza spies on Dalmi banging the maid she masturbates while the maid is smacked around during sex...  Elza is so aroused she plans her next move, Elza wants some Dalmi sex, and made to orgasm like the maid, or she will spill the beans on Dalmi's past to her husband.  Dalmi has no problem with this arrangement.  Rape, sex in the ocean, the “N” word, gay slurs, dark subject matter, violence and death.  English subtitles

U385 Erotic Adventures of Super Knight, The (71) aka: The Long Swift Sword of Siegfried  aka: Siegfried und das sagenhafte Liebesleben der Nibelungen   aka: The Lustful Barbarian   Quite possibly the best naughty Knights sex satire.  The women are all beautiful, and in heat, always in various states of undress.  Sybil Danning (as 'Kriemhild') has no problem at all strutting around in the buff, so confident of her knock-out looks she has no inhibitions.  The music ranges from pre-canned Wagner to tripped out Beatnik with a gratuitous and cheesy flute/organ combo.  Raimund Harmstorf is Siegfried, cutting loose in a sex comedy instead of his usual more serious stuff.  Pair it up with 'Excalibur'!  BA

U409 Fantasies of Miss Jones, The (84) aka: The Princess and the Call Girl   Carol Levy in a dual role, Audrey Swallow, a conservative woman naive and engaged, and the slutty reckless Lucy Darling (although I think the other name was a bit more....  suggestive).  Darling convinces Swallow (her doppelganger)  to go to Monaco in her place and the switch is made.  Audrey Swallow loses her inhibitions in Monaco, and screws men and women with reckless abandon.  Meanwhile back home, Lucy Darling fails miserably, showing up at a conservative party in a tiny bathing suit, and gets caught topless with a sexy maid by her fiancé, who is appalled by her change of behavior, and possibly, a little turned on.  Carol Levy is a cross between Olivia Newton John and Bo Derek.  Incredible erotic sex film from the director of 'Score' Radley Metzger.  Also with Jon Polito.

U473 Gamiani (81) aka: Two Nights of Excess   Two lesbians let a man join their little love nest.  Based on the French erotic novel from 1833 by the writer of 'The Student of Prague' Alfred de Mussett.  Good times.  Well, the movie is loaded with soft core sex with beautifully photographed players.  Two Passionate Nights for sure.  But this is no light-hearted romp, it gets deadly serious, and then, fatal.  F.L.

U461 Have You Ever Been on a Trip? (70) Drug-fueled soft-core sex with lots of bumping and grinding, and not much plot to speak of.  Every guy and girl gets it on, and after they are done, more show up and follow the plot of sex sex sex.  Eventually, the climax is all that could have happened next.  Sex.  Excitement.  Are they all on LSD?  If so, this is a hell of an advertisement for it.  Jane Tsentas and more star.

U393 Heterosexualis (73) Silly sexploitation comedy populated by hardcore actresses like Candy Samples and the nipple-queen of porn Lynn Harris, who is serviced by Candy using a cucumber, and then pleasures herself with a large salami.  All in soft-core fashion, so this would be safe for those who reject penetration shots.  Boy, it was hard getting that out.  The nurse's idea of a 'tongue bath' sure beats the sponge.  Somehow, actor Michael Pataki found himself mixed up into this sexy trash, and he stops a Mr.  Hyde type monster man from raping a woman, who thanks him by chasing him down the hall with a machete.  Pataki gets laid on a rooftop, and again later.   In the end full frontal male joins Candy and Lynn on a couch, while other girls join in.....

U400 Indecent Woman, The (91) aka: De onfatsoenlijke vrouw   Emilia (Jose Wray) seems to have it all, she is a married violinist, with a daughter, showing the house of her deceased mother to a stranger.  The man makes a pass.  She tells him to leave.  But as she narrates, we know she was aroused.  She goes home and makes love to her husband.  Unsatisfied, she meets the man again...   The build-up is slow, but when Emilia finally explodes with desire she cannot stop.  She initiates sexual games, like sex in the toilet of an expensive restaurant.  In Dutch with English subtitles  BA

U411 Lovers and Other Strangers (74) aka: Venial Sin  aka: Peccato veniale  aka: Me gusta mi cuñada    Horny young Sandro (Alessandro Momo) spends his vacation by the sea, somewhere on the beaches of Tuscany, circa 1950's with his well-to-do family.  In the opener, Sandro and a couple other young men have convinced a girl with facial hair that they can make it disappear if they rub some kind of powder on her rather large breasts.  Inappropriate yes, and also hysterical.  Later, Sandro is obsessed with Laura (Laura Antonelli) and spends a lot of time with her on the beach, watching her oil herself up, he has to put a comic book over his crotch to cover his....  you know.  Antonelli stirs the lust of all male viewers with such class, a real knockout.  Sandro and his equally horny coming of age friends are amusing, and rather innocent in their fumblings.  Sandro's brother actually encourages him to have sex with his wife Laura!  Will they or won't they, do they or don't they?  Also with Monica Guerritore.  Alessandro Momo was seventeen for this role, lucky for him he may have actually had a chance with Laura Antonelli, because he would be in a motorcycle accident shortly after filming in 1974, dying one week shy of his 18th birthday, driving a powerful Honda CB750 Four, in spite of Italian traffic regulations at that time prohibiting under age 21 from operating, gifted to him from actress Eleonora Giorgi, she of Argento's 'Inferno' and others.  English subtitles  BA

U569 Nude on the Moon (61) aka: Moon Dolls  The ultimate end to the science fiction fantasy of finding a bunch of hot women in outer space.  The spacemen are over-dressed with hilarious looking space suits, but they don't need them, Apparently the moon has oxygen that is just fine, and the plant-life resembles earth! The men living on the moon, lucky bastards each and every one, the women all beautiful, in color, and topless.  Eloi?  Naturally I would ditch the suit and join this primitive race....  Eye-popping large breasted women from 1961 everywhere.  Moon Dolls.  The space ship special effects are one step up from Ed Wood.  BA

U331 Pink Ribbon (04) Tokyo, Japan.  Even now, adult film theaters are part of our cities.  Movies that play there, are called 'Pink Films'.  2002 was supposedly the 40th anniversary of pink films.  Now, explore the films, people involved, clips and scenes, dozens of orgasms later you will know more about these films than you ever imagined you would.  A thrilling ride of sex and nudity, and how they all came together.  The passion, The dedication.  The Sex!  English subtitles

U404 Portuguese Erotic Snow White (79) aka: Historias Que Nossas Babas Nao Contavam  In the opener, while a dying king calls for his queen and son to be by his bedside, we see why they are tardy.  He is being ridden hard by his stepmother, the queen, to the tune of the 'Lone Ranger' theme.  The king is dead.  The evil queen consults her mirror, there appears her fairy-man to advise.   Snow White is played by Adele Fatima, a hot stacked Brazilian chick, who loves to share her naked body with the camera.  The leg rub is hilarious.  Seven little people take her in and gawk at her when she is naked.  She gets excited when the dwarf gets busy on her behind.  Lucky little bastard.  Dwarf number two comes in for his turn, the music is ripped from familiar territory to comedic affect.  Snow White gets so much pleasure from the midgets, the prince may face rejection, but he is now gay, and leaves on horseback with a gay dwarf.  Snow White stays with the little people, there is much more pleasure and happiness to be had.  F.L.  only, but easy to follow and quite entertaining.  An obscure film.  Adele Fatima had just filmed scenes for 'Moonraker' as 'Manuela' when she was canned and all of her scenes cut, replaced by Emily Bolton, the same year.  Apparently 'Moonraker' guys saw this film and then axed her.  A shame, Bolton is nowhere near as sexy as Adele Fatima.   BA

U417 Praise, What Makes You Hard (72) Wonderful West German soft core with Sybil Danning.  Six hundred years before Christ, the 45th Olympic Games.  A satire, a comedy, the disdain for themselves in this time-bending anti/pro-intellectual convoluted historical mish-mash bewildering and maybe possibly telling, and at times, dead on.  The story is set in ancient Greece, with Sparta and Athens as representatives for East and West Germany, respectively.  Differing youth selection for excellence where East German children for example were screened very young to determine in which sport they may excel, while the Spartan babies who didn't measure up to qualification, were simply abandoned.  All in good fun of course.  Of course.  I am not one to judge customs of 1000 years ago, we have our own issues now.  In the end....  Praise What Makes You Hard.  That's where Sybil Danning comes in.....  English subtitles

U457 Raw Ones, The (65) The first feature-length American nudist documentary to go full frontal for everybody.  Boy, these folks sure like to let it all hang out.  Watch that girl jump rope!  A card game has broken out at the picnic table.  The girls are terrible at jumping rope.  Just awful.  But fun to watch.  Fancy a bit of ping pong?  These girls are gentle with those balls.  Trampoline, swimming pool.....  you name it, they do it.  My kind of club, except, well, I think I prefer my clothes on when I do these things.  You guys are fine though, go for it.

U311 School of Erotic Enjoyment (71) aka:  Io Cristiana studentessa degli scandali   Professor Davide (Glenn Saxson) teaches over-sexed students who plot to seduce him and his wife into sexual debauchery to ...  well...  prove  a point.   When they realize the professor's wife is a horny bisexual swinger...  things get very interesting.  The female student (Malissa Longo) develops feelings for the professor.  Everything seems all light and cheery, until the vicious gang-rape scene.  Longo's incredible breasts appear frequently and her butt also appears briefly, most assuredly memorably.  English dubbed.  Sergio Bergonzelli writes and directs  BA

U329 Sex Maniac’s Guide to the U.S.A., The  (93) This documentary contains all of the sex-related segments from the 'This is America' series 1-3.  Please, let's bring back the topless car wash.  These gals know their way around a bumper.  Windshields wiped with large bouncy-breasts.  Now that's squeaky clean! This segment comes and goes too soon for me, but next, we get to see real footage of swingers at Plato's, a den of hedonism, a mating ground for the uninhibited.  Shake it Baby.  Shake It!   More!   Around an hour.

U408 Six Women & A Man (64) aka: Sextet   Soft porn comic Pauly Dash reacts to his fantasies while laying by the pool.  First as a fisherman out at sea and lo and behold, three topless beauties appear before him, all very impressed with his stories, they swab the deck, bending and moving for the camera in close-up.  They do his bidding happily, saluting.  Good Girls!  In his next dream he is the sultan of swing, with his own harem.  Later, while mowing grass, he comes up with another fantasy where he impresses six babes as he poses and flexes before a pool.  Take note, he has the body of Red Buttons.  They all end up topless in the pool, they simply cannot resist him.  Fantasies can be so contradicting.  Meanwhile, his wife is trying to drag him out of his sexual delirium, literally.  + Bonus: The Secret Dream Models of Oliver Nibble (67) Oliver Nibble (Dick Van Patton) is being nagged at by his bitch wife in black and white.  Boom! Fantasies in color.  Oliver photographs beautiful models in various stages of undress.  All three girls are knock-outs.  While some describe this 22 minute short starring Dick Van Patton as the low point of his career, I think the exact opposite.  Next: Playgirl Models (63) You too can photograph nude models, all the craze once.  Now it'll get you a lawsuit and 5 to 10 when they lie about their experience years later when they are fat and ugly.  Beware.  Thankfully these good-old-days films remind us of what once was.  + more 60's Topless Fun!

U550 Snow White and the Seven Happy Sadists (82) aka: Biancaneve & Co...  aka: Snow white and the Seven Wise Men   Another bawdy look at the legend of Snow White, complete with funny, inappropriate one-liners, and seven 'wisemen' instead of dwarfs.  Oral-Sex obsessed Snow White has sex with the woodsman so he will not kill her.  'Let's go then!' she says happily to a fairy tale tune.  The evil queen has a penis, and since Snow White cannot resist a hard package the queen, disguised as a man (?) poisons Snow White with her 'poisoned penis'! The only way to resurrect her is to climb onto her sleeping body and have sex with her!  Michela Miti is quite stunning here.  There are two versions available of this.  The Uncut version in Italian language and very nice quality.  94 minutes.  Also available in a so so quality English dubbed version that runs 82 minutes but is missing crucial material, but you get the snappy funny dialogue.  Order them both and compare!   BA

U392 Starlet Screen-test (86) For every role in Hollywood there are hundreds of actresses competing for the role (in 1986, when women were smoking hot and flaunted, frolicked and flirted with the wink of an eye and a drop of their clothes).  You're about to experience twelve such screen tests.  Here we see  porn stars Crystal Breeze, Sheena Horne and Candie Evans (c'mon, do these gals ready need an audition?), and other beauties like Sheila Lussier, Gail Thackray and more.  Full nudity galore from all of the sexy ladies and a decent three chicks in the shower finale.  You'll be happy, and need a cold one yourself.

U480 Sweet Peach (93) aka: Crazy Love  aka: Mi tao lai tou huan   Loletta Lee as 'Jane' plays a sweet trouble-maker Lolita type, a spoiled (but somehow likable) little brat.  She gets men worked up, then tricks them, the classic teaser.  But she will deliver in the sex department!  Explicit references to sexual assault and gay panic jokes are humorous, and not out of place for the time.  Jane's summer schooling becomes an  adventurous boner-inducing romantic journey.  Category III Soft-core.  Mandarin with English subtitles

U423 Tina and the Professor (94) Tina (Roxanne Blaze) leaves the country life to study in California, where she immediately starts to engage in carnal pleasures in this land of milk and honey.  Several hook-ups later, she finds her love connection with an eye-patch wearing professor old enough to be her grandfather.  She is 22, he 57.  Big deal, as long as his equipment still works.  It does she finds out.  The film is loaded with near hardcore sex, including the very long sex scene with Blaze and the professor (Stan Haze, who also directed, I see what you did there Stan, good job).  In one scene her roommate teaches her how to give a blowjob as they both suck on a large cucumber.  Blaze rides a horse naked on the beach.  Blaze was also in a number of porn films if you are looking for more of her in a more explicit close-up, although this is pretty erotic in the soft core department.  They are obviously having sex.

U396 What Every Frenchwoman Wants (86) aka: The Erotic Adventures of Don Juan  Finally with English subtitles!   In a mansion full of women...  this is the location where young Roger is to stay, while the men go off to fight in WWI.  There, young horny Roger will bed and impregnate the maid, his aunt, and others.  All of the fantasies of a teenage boy are realized.  The look on his face in the opening when a woman lifts her dress and urinates in front of him is pretty damn funny.  This is light-hearted throughout.  Serena Grandi, Claudine Auger, Marina Vlady and more.  English subtitles

U453 Conspiracy of Torture, The (69) aka: Beatrice Cenzi   Lucio Fulci directed this version of the very real horrors of the Catholic Church in 16th century Italy.  Not to knock the Church, but let's face it, if you got in their cross-hares, you would find yourself burned at the stake (or worse).  Maybe Beatrice Cenzi (Adrienne Larussa) deserves what happens to her after she is found guilty of plotting with her lover to murder her abusive father.  I cannot be sure.  The community and the church however, are sure.  This is as close to a 'Mark of the Devil'/'Witchfinder General' type that Lucio Fulci ever directed.  It's dark and gruesome.  People are burned with tongs, put on racks, a man has a nail rammed into his eye....  The production is lavish, expensive looking, well thought out.  The Church, Revenge, Politics....  it's all here.  In Italian with English subtitles  BA

U496 Daughter of Darkness 2 (94) aka: Mit moon cham on 2: Che chung   This sequel, made a year after the original (#905), follows the same formula.  Bumbling cops investigate the killing of a family, which results in the sexual molestation of a (presumed) dead woman, group masturbation, voyeurism, the eating of a semen-covered mango by a female cop with big tits...  well that is the first part.  Now we descend into sexual violence, rape, bloody murder and more as suspect Sau recounts her story to the police chief.  The use of a board of nails, a bear trap, a big knife and a sharp bamboo pole.  Ouch!!! U452 Voices of Desire (72) The same year Sandra Peabody was on the last road to nowhere as Mari in 'The Last House on the Left', she also starred in this lesser known twisted little sex/horror thriller directed by Chuck Vincent.  Sandra Peabody is Anna Reed, a girl who begins to hear ghostly voices that eventually summon her to a strange house, where she then becomes amorous with various fruits.  There she is first though, in a phone booth (her agent? Fire him!).  The music is far more intense than the subject matter suggests.  She grinds grapes into her crotch as she fantasizes about her lover.  She rolls an apple over her naked body.  Various couplings in this cult-sex-house reveal the participation of real porn stars such as Darby Lloyd Raines and Marlene Willoughby, although this is strictly soft-core, a fascinating look into 1972 New York film culture, that had to lead to that even more cynical 'Last House...' next step.  The piano music adds elegance to the proceedings? Nah.  This is low grade trash, but lovable low grade trash.  ‘Repulsion’ meets ‘A Woman's Torment’ meets ‘Carnival of Souls’!

W476 White Slaves of Chinatown (64) aka: Olga's White Slaves  Audrey Campbell is 'Olga' in her first (of three) playing the character.  It's a narrated cult film, dialogue dubbed on the cheap monstrosity, with bad oriental-styled music that plays over and over, torture, off-screen abortion and a woman's breast burnt with a cigarette (also off-screen), dominance.  submission....  White Slaves of Chinatown is an easy film to make fun of.  But in 1964, this was cutting edge stuff.  A mean-spirited roughie.  A film everybody would sneak out to see, but never admit that they had seen it.  Audrey Campbell died of kidney and respiratory failure at age 76 in New York City 2006.

HAMMER AND BRITISH FILMS

U445 Angel Who Pawned Her Harp, The (54) The only way The Angel (played quite beautifully by Diane Cilento) can accomplish her mission on earth is to raise some cash so she can support and sustain her 'human' body while she busily brings out the best in the people that she meets.  The camera moves around Islington in London as it appeared in 1953.  The oldest and most important message ever.  Love and compassion for the entire human race, regardless of any differences.  Diane Cilento would go on to play Miss Rose in 'The Wicker Man' twenty years later.

U339 Big Wheels and Sailor (79) Lorry highjackers, led by the owner of a rival taxi cab company, take the children of lorry drivers prisoner.  But these kids are not helpless fools, and the bad guys soon learn they have made a big mistake!   + Mr. Selkie (79) This is one about the environment when a seal comes ashore, disguised as a man, he engages in an anti-pollution campaign with the local concerned children.  52 warmly fuzzy minutes of nostalgic fun, of course the end scenes are quite downbeat with that 'message' though.  Two specials running under an hour each, both from the Children's Film Foundation.

U341 Boy Who Never Was, The (80) When a diplomat is kidnapped, assassins use a doppelganger of his boy to deliver a bomb to his country's ambassador.  The real son however is on to the deceit, and enlists the aid of two cockney boys to stop the assassins.  Never a dull moment in this tidy little thriller.

U342 Breakout (84) Prison escapees almost have it made with their subterfuge.  They discover some pesky kids spying on them, and decide to use them as hostage decoys to help them get through the police checkpoints.  These guys are not nearly as dangerous as they seem, and the boys seem to bond with Donnie 'The Bull', a violent armed robber who yearns for freedom and friendship.  A morality tale with powerful sense of growing up.

W470 Carry On at Your Convenience (71) aka: Carry on Comrade  W.C. Boggs (Kenneth Williams) flush toilet industry (lavatory factory in proper English) is in constant turmoil due to a loud-mouth rebel-rousing union leader who has always got a bug up his bum about something, encouraging strike after strike.  This flimsy plotline is the perfect excuse for toilet-bog-bidet gags.  Nothing PC here, the sacred cows take a knocking and rightfully so!  Appropriately offensive.  Sidney James, Margaret Nolan, Jacki Piper and more star.  BA

W473 Carry On Behind (75)  A plethora of characters arrive on an English campground in March and engage on this dismal site for sore eyes in risqué innuendo which includes tasteless toilet humor, gratuitous female nudity (bums and boobs, no bush) and middle-aged married men lusting after bikini babes, and a stripper is booked for the caravan camp cabaret act!  Elke Sommer still looks fantastic in that cheeky suede skirt.  Also with Carol Hawkins and many more.  BA

W472 Carry On Dick (74) aka: Carry on Dick Turpin  Sidney James is a 'Doctor Syn'/'Captain Clegg' type of character, masquerading as a clergyman by day, and then as a mellow highwayman at night, this all based on Dick Turpin, one of England's most notorious highwaymen of the 16th century.  Undeniably coarse and unsophisticated, just like all of the 'Carry On' films, and exactly why these crude and saucy British flicks still stand up today.  High production values, with something to offend just about everybody.  BA

W474 Carry On England (76) aka: The Busting of Balsy  Set in 1940 England.  An inept military outfit, outfitted with both men and women who are more interested in getting into bed with one another, than any kid of war that may be going on.  Can the new general whip them into shape?  First, new regulations!  Good luck.  A mess of sex and gags, the cast even seems a bit uncomfortable at times.  Some pretty nasty practical jokes.  Judy Geeson, Kenneth Conner and many more star.  BA

W469 Carry On Henry VIII (71) Carry On Costumer.  Queen Marie (Joan Sims) has bad breath and Henry III (Sidney James) tries to annul their marriage without angering her French King cousin.  A comedy, a period film, sexual innuendos flow like wine, some (very) cheap laughs and still the best bawdy comedy of Tudor Britain.  Barbara Windsor doing her no brain, all sexuality act.  The bygone age of the sex comedy, all the women are treated as sex objects.  Wait, what...  they're not?  Also with Margaret (Goldfinger) Dink and David Prowse as the bearded torturer.  Politically Incorrect Wonderfulness.  BA

W471 Carry On Matron (72) Frequent breast jokes in a film is good.  That is what I learned from the 'Carry On' series.  This madcap entry has Kenneth Williams playing a hospital administrator who is obsessed with macho manliness.  Kenneth Cope is 'Cyril' dressing in drag as a nurse, to find out where 'The Pill' is stored, part of the mastermind of a contraceptive pill heist.  Barbara Windsor, Jacki Piper and Valerie Leon as Jane Darling.  BA

U348 Case of the Red Monkey, The (55) aka: Little Red Monkey   Someone is bumping off nuclear scientists in England.  Russians!  The Red Menace!  Some people report seeing a small monkey at the scenes of the murders.  But is it a monkey, or a murderous midget?  Agents try to hide a Russian defector, next on the kill list.  The Cold War, espionage, and the brain drain from the USSR to the USA set upon British ground.  Richard Conte, Rona Anderson and more.  BA

U391 Children Galore (55) Directed by Terence Fisher just before the Hammer horror boom.  A British Lord offers a cottage to the couple with the most children.  This sets up a competition!  The catty infighting among the predominantly female cast is rather amusing.  The simple contest explodes the already shaky family feuds.  June Thorburn stars, remember her from 'The Crimson Blade' and 'Fury at Smugglers Bay'?  She did not even make it out of the 1960's, dying in a plane crash at age 36 in England 1967.

U350 Empire State (87) This obscure English thriller explores East End London criminal life in the 1980's.  Drug dealing, gambling, bare-knuckle fist-fights, shoulder pads and a strong homosexual angle to the plot as most of the characters seem to be rent boys and even the imported American star Martin Landau gets up to some dodgy activities in a hotel room.  Frank (Ray McAnally) is a low life gangster who runs a nightclub.  Directed by Ron Peck.  With Cathryn Harrison.   BA

U389 Find the Lady (56) Young woman June (Beverly Brooks) searches for her missing grandmother on New Year's Eve.  Anne (The Fox) Heywood in very early small role as a receptionist.  Beverly Brooks went on to become wife of third Viscount Rothermere.  She was a rather large lady who went by the name of 'Bubbles'.  She had a heart attack and passed after a drug overdose at age 63, France 1992.  Runs about an hour.

U367 Gilbert and Sullivan (53) Fourteen comic operas rose to critical acclaim, all through the Victorian-era theatrical partnership of two Englishmen, William S. Gilbert (Robert Morley) and Arthur Sullivan (Maurice Evans).  Although together their creativity reached to the stars, they didn't always see eye-to-eye.  The staging of the various operetta's is done with care and taste.  Peter Finch plays D'Oyly, their producer.  The heart of the film is recreated highlights of the various productions.  Also starring Wilfrid Hyde-White and Michael Ripper as Louis.  Sharp color  BA

U388 Gold Express, The (55) A variety of characters on a train (including two old ladies who write lurid thriller/mystery novels under a pseudonym, and a recently married reporter on his honeymoon) are unaware the $100,000 worth of gold on board is about to undergo a change of possession.  A heist is underway.  The crooks intend to drug the guards, and toss them from the stage.  Ann Walford, Vernon Gray and more star.

U358 Gorge, The (68) The Wednesday Play - A well known holiday spot in the west of England, 'The Gorge' is 'Cheddar Gorge'.  A boy and a girl are on holiday with their parents, stealing brief interludes together surrounded by ferns and heather, both experiencing unexpected hormonal effects of puberty, but still able to speak about it with one another, frankly.  Boy: 'If I had tits, I'd play with them all the time.'.  Girl: ‘Yes I did that...  but it's like playing with your fingers....’  A drama with moments of hilarity.

U347 Great Barrier, The (37) aka: Silent Barriers   The Canadian Pacific railroad, finding a pass through the Rockies to complete it, The action is staged on the grandest of 1937 scales with rioting extras, rugged locations and lots of destruction (real and man made).  Richard Arlen stars and Lilli Plamer.  This is the uncut 84 minute version!  Apparently there is a 68 minute version out there that cuts many of Lilli Palmer's scenes.   BA

U353 Isn't Life Wonderful (53) aka: Uncle Willie's Bicycle Shop   Uncle Willie (Donald Wolfit) hits the sauce in England, the black sheep of an Edwardian family (tyrannically headed by Cecil Parker).  Uncle Willie buys a bike shop and Uncle Willie is a bad influence on the young boy of the family (played by Peter Asher, who would ten years later, briefly knock 'The Beatles' out of number one as half of 'Peter and Gordon', performing Paul McCartney's song 'World without Love', allowed because Paul was dating Peter's sister Jane Asher.  Set in 1902, a wonderful carnival with carousel segment, belly dancer, brown-face makeup on a magician posing as an Arab wizard and more.  Great color.   BA

U357 Last Days of Dolwyn (49) The small town of Dolwyn is about to be flooded under the waters of a dam being built by a rich businessman, shamed as a boy in Dolwyn, now a ruthless vengeful miscreant.  Thoughtful and moving, a time capsule of a movie providing a glimpse of a lost world in more ways than one.  Richard Burton stars, early role, big things still ahead for him, although he died fairly young.  Emyln Williams is the villain of the film, he also wrote the story and directed!

U343 Life with the Lyons (54) aka: Family Affair   Life with the Lyons is a sort of 'Ozzie and Harriet' styled film, British style, from Hammer productions before they hit pay dirt with the horror remakes.  The family moves to their new house in London and deal with eccentric servants, an irritable landlord, and ornery teenagers.  Belinda Lee is Violet Hemingway.  Val Guest directs.  BA

U463 Meet Mr. Lucifer (53) British Fantasy film from the Early Days of Television.  The arrival of television wreaks various degrees of havoc on three separate households, and the plot links old Beelzebub himself, the Devil, as quite possibly the catalyst for the influence this new medium will have on  society, the Devil, enjoying inventing new temptations to distract society from all that is good.  How people are affected by new technology, set amidst the grime and dilapidation of post-war London, with cramped basements and seedy bed sits.  Stanley Holloway, Peggy Cummins, Gordon Jackson, Ernest Thesiger and more.  BA

U313 Mr. Wroe's Virgins (93) The story of the 19th century intense and powerful cult leader John Wroe (Jonathan Pryce, something wicked this way comes indeed), and the experiences of seven young virgins (one being Minnie Driver) who came to serve him in his residence after his request for them to do so, given the go by his congregants.  The life-changing stories of what they experience is told from the viewpoint of four of the women, each with a different viewpoint.  The dark and creepy world of religious sects, coupled with abundant full frontal female nudity, a very welcome addition.  Four parts on two discs, counts as two selections.

U346 Our Miss Fred (72) aka: Beyond the Call of Duty  WWII comedy!  Shakespearian actor Fred Wimbush (Danny La Rue) is drafted into the army, and while performing in drag, he and the other troops are captured by the Nazis.  They think he is a she, and let him go.  Now, he cannot break character as he tries to liberate his squad.  He takes refuge with girls at a finishing school where there are plenty of risqué jokes and we get to see what Danny La Rue's act was all about (sort of).  Nazi to the girls "You're all woman and something more!' Danny "You're right!'.  Very British and double entendres loaded.  BA

U503 Ten Little Indians (65) An interesting cast in this version of the famous 'And Then There Were None' Agatha Christie novel.  The isolated setting this time out is a luxury mountaintop mansion.  They begin to be killed, one by one.  The mysterious voice that condemns the invited guests of their specific crimes is Christopher Lee.  Excellent cast that includes Hugh O'Brien, Dennis Price, Shirley Eaton, Daliah Lavi and Fabian.  BA

MISCELLANEOUS  WAR, SPY, ACTION, DRAMA, COMEDY...

U355 Adventures in Vienna (52) aka: Abenteuer in Wien   Cornell Borchers sneaks from her home to meet John Milton while her husband Francis Lederer is conducting a concert.  Gustav Frohlich drives a cab and is a wanted man, deciding to turn himself on New Year's Eve and start life fresh, but his last passenger dies, stabbed to death.  Intrigue occurs over a twelve hour period, of course in a feature length film.  Night in Vienna, busy downtown and post-war rubble.  Francis Lederer would go on to star in the classics 'Terror is a Man' and 'Return of Dracula' where he plays ...  'Dracula'!  In German with English subtitles

U351 Age of Infidelity (55) aka: Death of a Cyclist  aka: Muerte de un ciclista   An adulterous couple crashes into a cyclist and leaves him for dead.  Too many questions would expose their infidelity.  I saw what you did.  They are blackmailed by a swindler.  The woman (played by Lucia Bose) is the classic Femme-Fatale type.  The man feels guilt, and wonders if he should turn himself in.  The music plays along perfect with the subject matter.  A masterpiece of Spanish cinema.  English subtitles  BA

John Saxon had an actual black belt in karate.  Widescreen

U366 Bette Davis: A Basically Benevolent Volcano (83) Bette Davis was quite the outspoken independent force, dedicated to her craft, and her craft alone.  If she didn't like someone, they knew it quickly, she suffered no fools.  This documentary is about her life and career from the late 1920's to the 1980's, on stage, and before the camera lens.  People who know her and worked with her give their two cents.  Bette Davis died in 1989 at age 81 of metastasized breast cancer in France.

U356 Bold and the Brave, The (56) The Italian campaign of 1944 where an assortment of American types in war, the brave, the bold, fallen men, fallen women, religious zealot, gambling...  and no damn empathy for the enemy. U469 Diamond Ninja Force (88) aka: Fuerza ninja diamante  More remnants cobbled together, this time some unknown Japanese movie blended with new footage starring Richard Harrison, the king actor of cut and paste (and why he quit acting).  The old footage is about some family moving into a weird haunted house complete with maggots and other usual creepies.  These apparitions apparently created by a 'ghost ninja' who is after some kind of sacred magic object, that will give him ultimate power.  One of the worst/best movies ever.  Better than the last ten Marvel films.  BA

U375 Edgar Allen Poe: A Biography: All things Poe (    )  If ever you wondered what made this 19th century writer tick, this is probably close to finding out.  He was born in 1809, died in 1849 at the age of forty, no one really knows how or why, although it is pretty clear he was beaten senseless, and died later from the injuries.  He is still wildly popular, but realized none of this adulation and popularity during his 'living' years.  Edgar Allen Poe is an enigma, in the clearest sense of the word, then, and now.

U374 Hero Never Dies, A (98) aka: Chan sam ying hung   Rival Chinese Triads in the middle of a gang war, both leaders value pride and honor and both leaders use the same fortune teller who lives in Thailand.  Love, Action, Friendship, Betrayal and Hope!  Widescreen with English subtitles

U317 Key Witness (60)  Delinquency and gang violence versus law and order, with horrendous consequences for all involved.  While not as violent and sleazy as the book on which it was based, the film still has it's moments.  What happens when you decide to be a witness for the court.  No wonder many are so tight-lipped.  I didn't see nothin'.  Cool Los Angeles locations.  Nice upgrade of this classic, sort of successor, to 1955's 'The Blackboard Jungle'.  Banned in Australia in this version, and cut to pieces down to 65 minutes in other markets.  This is the Uncut version at 81 minutes!  Dennis Hopper, Jeffrey Hunter, Pat Crowley and also Johnny Nash.   BA

Hey Drennen, I've got a job for you on 'our' shores! Every cliché, action-galore, a killer theme song, mercenary madness, stereotype villains.....  and still more realistic than the new movies of the 2020's.  Asher Brauner usually played streetwise tough guys, and even appeared in the classic 'Switchblade Sisters'.  He died in 2021 at age 74.   Jesse Vint is still kicking at 84 as of 2024.  His brother Alan Vint died in 2006 at age 61 due to a variety of health issues.

U437 Showdown at the Great Tone River (59) aka: The River of Fury  aka: Doto no taiketsu   The Tenpo Era (1830- 1844).  Along the Great Tone River two yakuza families vied for power.  Boss Sukegoro controlled the large Lioka family.  Boss Shigezo controlled the new Sasagawa family.  Their territories were only six miles apart.  An uneasy, kind of forced peace, separated the two.  This conflict has been portrayed in other films later, but this epic production stands on it's own merits, a massive production.  This all-star extravaganza pulls out all of the stops, with appearances by virtually all of the great actors and actresses from Toei's studios at the time.  Widescreen and English subtitles

W448 Swingin' Affair, A (63) Watch what happens when a lonely kid from the poor section of town, who picks up extra cash fighting in the ring, joins a fraternity without telling them his background, and then, has to dodge the advances of the rich, spoiled girlfriend of one of his fraternity brothers.  With Dick Dale and His Del-Tones as themselves, Arline Judge, Sandra Bettin and Terri Garr in her small role debut.

U354 Underworld Beauty (58) aka: Ankokugai no bijo   Set in post war Tokyo, then very much, a city of shacks.  Comparing it to what it looks like today is mind-blowing.  Japanese noir in which a man fresh out of prison exits prison, and retrieves the diamonds, has them almost stolen so he swallows them, and jumps off a roof.  Now the bad guys need his dead body to get the diamonds, but the man's sister, not in the know, wants to bury him.  More twists and turns including a hell of a climax.  Also a bit more sexually suggestive than the American noir that remained at the time.  Japanese with English subtitles  BA

MODERATE AND MADE FOR TV MOVIES

U588 Bait, The (73) Obscure, and very dark MFTV.  Cop Tracy Fleming (Donna Mills) is part of the force trying to capture a rapist killer who has been terrorizing the women of Los Angeles.  Hollywood Hills and some of the scenery where she attempts to bait the killer are suspenseful, as is the opening stalk and kill, quite horrifying for television.  This was made before the 'Hillside Stranglers' were running amok.  In the open, Tracy is busting a pervert who is exposing himself on the bus to innocent women.  Then she busts another guy.  Watch out who you talk to on the bus.  The serial killer/rapist is played by William Devane.  The movie is 'gold'.  Also with Michael Constantine, June Lockhart and I spotted Timothy Carey.

U583 Best Little Girl in the World, The (81) 17 year old Casey (Jennifer Jason Leigh) has quit eating because her parent's (Charles Durning and Eva Marie Saint) are not giving her enough attention.  Off to the clinic where she meets another girl with the same problem, who gives Casey some pointers in the land of bulimia/anorexia....  Call an Exorcist, She just bit Dad (after he tried to cram peanut butter sandwiches down her throat!).  Hey, there's shrink Jason Miller (good enough).  Downbeat, grim, cheesy song....  all the right moves for this type.  Jennifer Jason Leigh, under medical supervision, got down to 87 pounds for her role.  Sounds like abuse, but whatever.  Also with Ally Sheedy, Lisa Pelikan, Michael Dudikoff, Viveca Lindfors and more.  Print just okay, at one point the sound disappears and English subtitles come on.  But then the sound returns for the remainder of the film.

W452 Cursed Mansion, The (63) aka: Tomb of Torture  aka: Metempsyco    Original Italian language and English subtitles version.  #R280 is the LBX English Dub  BA

U589 Escape (71) Christopher George is Cameron Steel, a man of adventure (and professional escape artist), who solves crimes on the side.  The chase leads to a Bond-villain like lair hidden in an amusement funhouse (complete with a haunted ride).  The scarred baddie behind the scenes?  John Vernon (as the mad Doctor Walding, sporting large sideburns).  The bad guy is working on a germ to destroy all of mankind.  A madman working on a virus to dispose of much of humanity?  Who would believe such a thing could be possible?  Opens up like a Bond film with an action sequence then a song with graphics.  Finale showdown on a roller coaster.  Also starring William Windom, Huntz Hall, Gloria Grahame, Marlyn Mason and more.

U505 Experiment in Evil (59) aka: Testament of Dr. Cordelier  aka: Il testamento del mostro  The lawyer Joly receives the testament of his friend and psychiatrist Dr. Cordelier and finds the man Cordelier is leaving his earthly goods to, Opale, is a monster.  The truth is even more disturbing.  Dr. Cordelier and Opale are one and the same.  This is a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde variation set in 1950's France.  This is actually one of the most faithful renditions of Robert Louis Stevenson's famous 'The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde'.  English subtitles  BA

U515 Fantasies (82) aka: The Studio Murders  It's the sexiest late night soap opera around.  And someone is stalking it's hottest stars.  Murdering them, one by one!  A decent made for television hybrid of a soap opera slasher, including the killer's POV shots.  Could it be an obsessed fan?  A jealous cast member?  Suzanne Pleshette's character is supposed to be a reflection of the audience.  The surprise end was quite a shock!  Barry Newman, Robert Vaughn, Patrick O'Neal and many more star.    No opening credits

U429 From Here to Eternity (79)  Bloated MFTV remake of the 1953 classic with an all-star cast.  Hawaii, 1941.  The days before the bombing of Pearl Harbor, leading up to the event.  This version allows the original novel to expand, really getting to the core of the author's intention.  William Devane in the Burt Lancaster role, no mistake who is in charge, although he is not Lancaster, he delivers a forceful firm performance.  Steve Railsback's Pruitt is played with intensity and defiant commitment, his squeeze is Kim Basinger.  Sexed up with Natalie Wood, as the adulterous wife of Roy Thinnes.  She is sleeping with Devane's character.  Also starring Will Sampson, Peter Boyle, Andy Griffith, Robert Davi and more.   Three disc set counts as three selections.

U585 Goodnight, My Love (72) Sleepy-eyed private detective Frank Hogan (Richard Boone) and his wisecracking dwarf sidekick Arthur Boyle (Michael Dunn) are enlisted to solve the murder of a man who was shot.  The victim was a courier of papers concerning the criminal activities of a nightclub run by Julius Limeway (Victor Buono).  A valentine to film noir of the 1940's.  Barbara Bain is the femme fatale of the piece (as the sexy Susan Lakely, referred to frequently with the word 'tomato').  Dunn steals the show.

U323/U324 Hoover versus the Kennedy's: The Second Civil War (87) FBI director J. Edgar Hoover (Jack Warden) feuds with John Kennedy (Robert Pine) and Bobby Kennedy (Nicholas Campbell).  Cheesy soundtrack music, the Civil Rights struggles during the Kennedy administration, a miscast film in almost every way.  Of course, that is why it interests me, why would I want it to be actually critically acclaimed aka: 'Boring'? Heather Locklear is Marilyn Monroe?  Hah.  Okay.  Richard Anderson is Lyndon Johnson.  A Martin Luther King  guy.....  We know the story, now watch it unfold.  Two disc set counts as two selections.

U584 I Think I'm Having a Baby (81) Laurie (Jennifer Jason Leigh) is only fifteen and she suspects she is pregnant.  Gee, how the hell did that happen?  Nobody seems to care, not even her boyfriend.  So, is she or isn't she?  I think she had this exact same problem in 'Fast Times at Ridgemont High'.  At least she is eating though (see 'The Best Little Girl in World' made the same year).  This 30 minute drama PSA aired in March of 1981, in the hopes that people would learn, and talk about sex before you have it.  Not the full balls out curriculum of today's schools....  Interesting cast includes David Birney, Helen Hunt, Tracey Gold and Ally Sheedy.

U586 Patricia Neal Story, The (81) The true story of actress Patricia Neal (played here by Glenda Jackson), who had a massive stroke while in her 30's in 1965 and almost died.  The doctor's say survival is hopeless.  The news go out that she has died.  But she didn't.  With speech therapy, stroke therapists, and the help of her husband and friends, she eventually recovers and makes it back to the movie scene.  An outstanding example of the fight you need to have within to recover from a stroke.  Dirk Bogarde plays her husband Roald Dahl.

U428 Red Flag: The Ultimate Game (81) Since 1975 in the Nevada desert, the U.S. Air Force has conducted a game of war called 'Red Flag'.  More than 5,000 fighter pilots have flown in this sometime deadly training exercise, some as Russians, others as Americans.  This is a fictional story of those fighter pilots who are locked in combat, determined to win.  Action and Drama in the days before 'Top Gun' starring tough guy William Devane (who steals the film in the scenes he is in), and not-so-tough Barry Bostwick (his character's wife played by Joan Van Ark), along with other familiar faces like Debra Feuer and Fred McCarren.  You will note bits and pieces of plot, used in later Hollywood blockbusters.  A neat look at the top Air Force Fighter Jets of 1981.

U336 Rumor of War, A (80) The story chronicles Caputo (Brad Davis) before the Viet Nam War, during officer training, and mostly, his service in Vietnam as a marine lieutenant.  You will definitely see some things that will remind you of other more expensive productions based on this war, such as the frustration, the horror, the slaughter, tedium, sadness and the futility of this hard conflict.  Supporting cast delivers including Michael O'Keefe, Keith Carradine, Brian Dennehy, Perry Lang, Christopher Mitchum, Steve Forrest, Laurence Fishbourne, Jeff Daniels, Chris Mulkey, Ken Foree and more.  An incredible production over three hours on two discs counts as two.  RIP Brad Davis

U587 She's Dressed to Kill (79) A group of models and their associates gather together at a mountain top mansion for a pretentious fashion show and start getting bumped off by an unseen killer.  Melissa dies after putting lipstick on that has been laced with cyanide.  Candy dies after using poisonous nerve gas disguised as hair spray.  Other guests are trapped in cable cars that have stopped working.....  Suspenseful dizzy high-up cable car finale.  Agatha Christie + modern day Euro-slasher meets Columbo, but no gore.  Jessica Walter, Connie Selleca, Gretchen Corbett, Joanna Cassidy and Jonathan Banks star.

W451 Uncle Was a Vampire (59) aka: Tempi duri per i vampiri   Incredible!  Christopher Lee walked right off the set of Hammer's 'The Mummy' and made another vampire film before he officially returned to the role of 'Dracula' in 1965.  He parodies his 'Dracula' playing vampire Baron Roderico da Frankurten, uncle to cash-strapped Osvaldo who has just sold his ancestral castle to be turned into a hotel.  Sometimes, scenes with Lee almost could be mistaken for outtakes from 'Horror of Dracula'.  A comedy horror from Italy, dubbed into English language, and from the looks of it, Lee has more screen time than many of his Hammer 'Dracula' film outings.  Sylva Koscina of 'Hercules' is here, Susanne Loret of 'Atom Age Vampire', Kai Fischer of 'The Hellfire Club' and more.  BA

U377 Vincent Price Spectacular (71) Four episodes of 'The Hilarious House of Frightenstein' Glory Glory Transylvania, Look Grandpa a Player Organ, Clyde's Zany Zanky Zoo and Dr. Pet Vet Vets His Pet....  all episodes starring Vincent Price + Creepy Classics + Strange But True + If These Walls Could Speak - All of these narrated and starring Vincent Price!  Epic!

MONDO FILMS

W483 Africa Speaks! (30) 69 minutes, longest surviving print.  The narration of the African footage would be considered racist in 2024.  Who cares.  Whatever is happening on film is mostly real.  The land of savagery and dangerous adventure where nature shows no mercy and deadly beasts of the jungle reign supreme.  The film was wildly successful in 1930, and formed many ideas of what Africa the Dark Continent was really all about, most of it accurate.   Great colorful BA available!

U332 Bloodstained Painting (88) aka: Lukisan Berlumur Darah   Indonesia.  A vicious bloody home invasion, results in murder and violent rape.  The painting of a woman is slashed across the neck with a bloodied blade.  Years pass.  Now, a young couple have arrived to remodel the house and make it their own.  The painting remains, and it is haunted by the spirits of the slain.  A possession?  Another home invasion, another near-rape and bloody death.  Where to bury the body?  Widescreen with English subtitles  BA

W478 Ghost in Love, The (00) aka: Ek Aatma   He has amnesia.  His dead wife has returned from beyond with tricks and deceit.  The ghost wants to end the new wife.  The Goddess helps the husband and the new wife from falling prey to the evil tricks of the dead wife, who just can't seem to let go.   English subtitles

U489 Heart of the Father (77) aka: The Raid   aka: Baskin   An action-packed Turkish thrill ride from start to finish starring the one and only Cuneyt Arkin, with all of the blood and stunts we expect from him.  Crime boss Murat (Arkin) is not too bad, he is in love with his pregnant wife (the pretty Necla Nazir), and he runs his business as solid and violence free as allows.  But his brother Joseph is a cop, who wants him behind bars.  Murat keeps escaping, with Joseph always in hot pursuit.  Murat jumps onto a train from a horse, hides between two running horses and more, all without the aid of a stuntman.  Turkish with English subtitles  BA

SHAW BROTHERS

U318 Men from the Monastery (74) aka: Shao Lin zi di  aka: Dragon’s Teeth  Three heroes, each given his own 20 minute back-story, including their fighting skills in conflict.   The burning of the Shaolin Temple and the subsequent battles of Ming rebels against the evil Qing overlords starts the main plot an hour in.  All of the Shaolin rebels team up to on all of the villains for the climactic non-stop ass-kicking finale.  A seminal film in the kung fu pantheon.  Near the bloody end, a bright red flash fills the screen as the picture goes to black and white for the final battle, an intended display, copied by many since.  Widescreen with English subtitles  BA

U319 Shaolin Martial Arts (74) aka: Hong quan yu yong chun   aka: I giganti del karaté  A team of disciples at a Shaolin martial arts school are threatened by Manchu rivals.  Four are chosen to train with local masters (including Simon Yuen of (later) 'Drunken Master’ fame).  They will learn.  They will Fight! Battles are bloody and feature some eye-popping violence.  A few of the murderous villains seem to possess unstoppable super-human kung fu skills, 'Steel Skin Killers'.  Widescreen and English Dubbed  BA

SOUTH OF THE BORDER & MEXI-MONSTER FLICKS

U245 Aunt Alejandra (80) aka: La tía Alejandra   Aunt Alejandra moves to the house of her nephew Rodolfo after the grandmother dies.  Alejandra is a witch, and teaches the young girl of the house witchcraft.  Two of the other children mock and torment  Alejandra.  Her revenge is lethal and deadly.  The puppets are especially creepy.  Drenched in atmosphere old Taco-Gothic with a decidedly downbeat conclusion.  Spanish with English subtitles

U412 Enemy Blood, The (71) aka: La Sangre Eniemiga  Blindness, mental retardation and physical deformities seem to be prerequisites to be a part of a small group of street clowns, all of them prisoners of their own instincts.  Of course there is some semblance of order in this weird circus farce, no? Yes, the dressed-up performing little dogs are the most sane characters in this sordid little tale.  David Reynoso is 'Estaban, the Hunchback Clown', Leticia Robles and Emilio (The Wild Bunch) Fernandez and more star.  Alcoholism, madness, murder, bizarre dream flashes of insanity, nymphomania, voyeurism and a very dark cold-blooded ending.  Spanish with English subtitles

U511 Wages of Fear, The (53) aka: Le salaire de la peur   Four men are given the deadly task of transporting nitroglycerine from a South American village, through rough terrain and mountainous roads that are in very poor condition.  The roads are full of ruts and even the smallest bump could blow everybody sky high.  The men are put to the ultimate test.  A movie about desperation, redemption, sacrifice and comeuppance.  Gripping, intense.  English subtitles  BA

WESTERNS

U397 Challenge to White Fang (74) aka: Il ritorno di Zanna Bianca   Follows 'White Fang' also directed by Lucio Fulci.  Once again the villainous Beauty Smith (John Steiner) is up to no good, this time unjustly trying to take over a gold mine claim that simply doesn't belong to him.  The film hovers over kid cute at times, but with Fulci at the helm, violence ensues throughout.  It's in his blood.  You'd think this was fun for the whole family, until the town drunk is beaten senseless, the hapless Indian family is murdered in cold blood, and the child terrorized by slimy baddies who like to torture cripples.  Matinee material for sure, for kids of the 1970's of course, a tougher, more realistic bunch.  Bullets fly, bodies fall, and White Fang is so clever he can spot a card cheat, and perform numerous stunts.  Franco Nero is Jason London, Virni Lisi is Sister Evangelina.  Also with Raimund Harmstorff and Harry Carey Jr. in the same film!   BA
